HAND-PAINTED CAKES ARE THE NEW TREND

Hand-painted cakes are very popular, it is even said that they will be THE new trend for cakes in 2104. More than ever, they are becoming real works of art.

Their creators get inspired by everything they love, be it a Parisian dress from the 20s…

…an Indian piece of fabric…

… stained glass…

… Tuscan Majolica ceramic…

… art deco…

… a tatoo…

… the Dia de la Morte…

…an invitation…

… la Bohème…

… Picasso…

… Monet…

… or Van Gogh.

They can be so very romantic, covered in delicate roses.

And they can also be colorful and fun, with beautiful bold flowers.

Sometimes, a three-dimensional detail will be added, giving the cake a really interesting visual impact.

BEST 2013 WEDDING TREND #12: BOLD CAKES

Before the 2014 wedding trends are announced, I’m trying to publish my last posts on the 2013 trends that I really loved.

When I started to get interested in weddings and all they entail, cakes were not my thing. But then I got hooked while exploring Pinterest and I fell in admiration with this very creative art.

In 2013, cakes were quite bold, which really speaks to me. They were either very simple, one color with a big detail or covered with colorful appliques.

The first trend is more modern and plain. The detail that is put forward can be a multitude of things: a bow, a flower, a heart. Anything that inspires us or illustrates our theme.

Appliques are more in your face and festive. They give a lot of personality to the cake.

They can also be very romantic, with pretty flowers and pastel colors.

Prints are putting a beautiful end to Trend #15, Prints & Patterns.

You can use them in all aspects of your wedding, from your dress to the invitations. They epitomize romanticism, softness and femininity, with their pretty flowers and vivid colors.

They will take every one’s breath away, charm them, captivate them and make your wedding a unique visual experience.

Lots of patterns, aside from polka dots and stripes, have become popular in the last years: the rustic plaid, the graphic chevron, the elegant damask, the psychedelic paisley, the modern lattice and the original animal print. You can be demure and use them just as accents and details or go for broke and DARE!

One thing is sure, nobody will remain indifferent and your wedding will be unique forever in their mind.

STRIPES

There’s so many types of prints and patterns, all more interesting than the other, I will have to write a blog on each of them, so you can see all they can be.

Stripes are a pattern with multiple personalities. They are classic in black and white. They can feel nautical or Parisian in blue. They can be so pretty in pink or red. They can be thin and delicate, bold and dynamic, oblique and contemporary. They’re always daring and know how to make a visual impact. Actually, they can adapt to all wedding elements.

They become demure on wedding dresses.

They dares to show off bouquets.

They give playfulness to bridesmaids.

They wake up mens accessories.

They attract attention during the ceremony.

They allow decor elements to stand out.

They charm on tables and chairs.

They render centerpieces interesting.

They help napkins to be striking.

They give bite to menus.

They modernize table numbers and seating cards.

They update cakes.

And finally they play with angles and words on invitations.

It’s obvious with all of these images that you cannot be shy with stripes, you have to embrace them, show them off and use them in all of their graphic potential.

Time goes by so fast! Christmas is nothing but a glitter in our minds, summer has come and gone (just kidding, it’s just a bit cold right now) and the Wedding Season is upon us. For those who decided on a Spring Wedding, you’re dealing with the last details, your theme was chosen way back. But for all of the others that will get married in 2013, maybe you’re still looking for inspiration. A few experienced bloggers have told us that there are many very interesting trends in 2013. ART NOUVEAU: WEDDING CAKES, Part 4

VERY TRENDY: CUPCAKES & MINI CAKES

In the last few years, one of the biggest trend in bakery has been cupcakes. Cupcakes shops have multiplied in Montreal, as everywhere. Cupcakes can be perfect interpretations of wedding romanticism, because their frosting can become a rose, a pearl, a heart, anything that represents love and the union of two people.

These are one of my favorites… what woman can resist shoes?

Cakes & Cupcakes

What is also very trendy is to create a beautiful small cake, to put it on a tall display and to surround it with cupcakes of the same colours and theme. You can go for romanticism or colour. I think it’s brilliant, since every guest gets his or hers own cupcake. And the visual impact is very interesting.

Mini Cakes

If you like the cupcake idea, but you want to be different, you can go for mini cakes, those exquisite little creations, delicate and elegant. They also can be the reflection of the wedding colours and theme.

Cakes & Mini Cakes

The visual impact is as interesting when you display a normal shape cake with all of his little reproductions. Once more, details are in fashion, be it small bows, pretty little flowers or vibrant colours.

Of all of the trends I’ve seen up until now in wedding cakes, I must say that the cupcakes & mini cakes are the ones that really charmed me the most. I love the idea of individual portions and the many shapes and details made me, more than once, gasp “Oh my God!”.

ART NOUVEAU: WEDDING CAKE, Part 3

BOLD COLOURS & A DASH OF WHIMSY

If you want to get away from convention and make a big impression, you can choose a wedding cake with bold colours or a surprising shape or with unique decorations. And when you go that way, that is where the master bakers creativity really take flight!

Bright Colours

A few years ago, it was uncommon to see wedding cakes in bright colours like fuchsia, orange, red or yellow. Even if it’s so beautiful!

You wouldn’t have dared combining such a bold colour as fuchsia with orange (trendy!) or…

… lime green (surprising!) or …

…black (modern!) or even…

… purple (brilliant!).

And who would have thought to add some lime green as a third colour (inspired!).

Because lime green was usually used as an accent colour, never with beautiful hues as purple, like these.

Purple was more often classic or romantic, it would go with white or pale pink. By combining it to pops of bright colours, like red, you make it vibrant!

Blue were more reserved, in pastels or navy. They never took the beautiful shade of turquoise and they never dared to mingle with fuchsia or lilac.

These days, there’s no limits to colours combinations, you can go all out,  be daring, you can stun and have a blast, and the results are simply breathtaking!

Unusual Shapes

It’s not only the colours that have evolved, the cake shapes also became innovative, unusual and so creative!

A Blast of Shapes, Colours & Ideas

It is now the new normal to play with colours and shapes and to dare to be different. There’s no limit to whimsical, cakes have become the reflexion of the bridegroom’s personality. Innovation is in, for everyone’s pleasure!

JUST ROMANCE

Warning: The beauty of these cakes can be addictive.

Cakes are an essential part of a wedding, they are as important as the bride’s bouquet or the centerpieces in the development of the decor. One of most classic wedding theme is romanticism. It’s a very feminine theme, very delicate, with lace, ribbons and bows, pearls and roses. The colours are very soft, usually white, beige, pink, sometimes black or pastel.

To carry out the romantic theme to cakes, you can choose lace…

You can also use pearls, antique jewels, diamonds or sequins that glitter brightly…

Bows and flowers are also very romantic.

Finally, romanticism can also express itself with a multitude of combinations of lace, bows, flowers, jewels, draping and ruffles.

This is my very favorite, I think it it’s the perfect definition of romanticism, with its hat box shape, its lace, its bows, its pearls and roses.
